Our Mission

It is the mission of Housing First, Inc. to end homelessness in southwest Alabama. It is our vision that everyone has a safe, affordable home as well as the resources to maintain it.

Today, Housing First, Inc. provides direct service to homeless clients through programs funded by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), The Veterans Administration (VA), and private donors. The Housing First, Inc. programs focus on four areas:

Outreach provides services to those experiencing homelessness on location, removing the barrier of transportation for those in need of assistance. Outreach workers conduct program eligibility assessments, provide diversion services, connect individuals to resources, and provide valuable supplies to the homeless in Mobile and Baldwin counties.

Coordinated Entry serves as a central hub for those in need of housing assistance in Mobile and Baldwin counties. Intake Specialists conduct program eligibility assessments while case managers work with individuals and families until they are referred to a housing program.

Community Housing Programs provide housing assistance to families with children, unaccompanied youth (18 – 24 years old), chronically homeless individuals, homeless individuals and families with a disability, and unaccompanied homeless individuals. These programs provide assistance to help those experiencing homelessness, and provide stable housing and support to help them regain self-sufficiency.

Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program provides assistance to low income veteran families that are experiencing homelessness, or are at risk of homelessness. This VA funded program links veterans to available resources, provides housing assistance, and case management tailored to their needs.
